1. Spiritual

The spiritual dimension involves a sense of connection to something greater than oneself, which may include religious faith, personal beliefs, values, or a sense of purpose beyond the material. It provides inner peace, moral grounding, and direction in life. Practices that nourish this aspect include meditation, prayer, time in nature, spiritual reading and contemplation, or community worship in your local church.

Key qualities: Meaning, inner peace, faith, alignment, connectedness, and perspective.

2. Mental

Mental wellness focuses on cognitive functioning, learning, critical thinking, and mental agility. It includes how we process information, optimize memory and recall, make decisions, solve problems, and maintain a healthy and positive mindset. Lifelong learning, setting goals, mental challenges, and maintaining curiosity help support your mental agility.

Key qualities: Clarity, focus, learning, growth, resilience and a desire to learn new things.

3. Emotional

Emotional health is the ability to recognize, express, and manage feelings effectively. It encompasses self-awareness, emotional regulation, empathy, and the capacity to cope with life’s ups and downs. Healthy emotional habits include unconditional love, journaling, therapy, meaningful relationships, and self-compassion.

Key qualities: Awareness, stability, empathy, self-expression, adaptability.

4. Physical

The physical dimension involves caring for the body through proper nutrition, exercise, sleep, and regular medical care. It's the foundation for renewing energy, endurance, and overall functioning. Physical well-being also supports the other dimensions, enhancing emotional and mental stability.

Key qualities: Vitality, strength, flexibility, nourishment, rest (also an action word!), and movement.

5. Purpose

Purpose is the sense of direction and motivation that guides our actions and choices. It includes alignment with personal values, meaningful goals, and contribution to something greater. This category illuminates the hobby, activity or goal you put off due to an excessively busy life. Living with purpose promotes fulfillment, resilience, and a deeper sense of satisfaction. If you spend time in the other 4 categories a minimum of 5 minutes per day, your purpose often becomes clear.

Key qualities: Direction, passion, motivation, contribution, fulfillment, and wholeness.
